Character of our Lodge

Lodge events

In addition to Lodge meetings we believe in involving families and friends in activities that range from get-togethers after meetings to fundraising for worthwhile causes.

The Sunday after our regular meeting, we have a Lodge BBQ that anyone can attend – family, friends or interested members of the public. It’s a ‘bring your own’ event – very informal and friendly.

Contact the Lodge Secretary for more details.

Our history

We are an amalgamation of two older Lodges. Waverley Lodge was consecrated in November 1906 and was numbered 1026 under the Grand Lodge of Scotland. In 1923, the Lodge joined the United Grand Lodge of Queensland as number 170.

Palmwoods Lodge Number 68, Grand Lodge of Queensland, was consecrated in November 1915, at the Palmwoods School of Arts building and moved to its own Masonic Centre in 1916.

Following the formation of the United Grand Lodge of Queensland, the Lodge number was changed to 249. On 20th November, 1937, Mr G F Nicklin was initiated into Palmwoods Lodge and later became the Premier of Queensland. The two Lodges amalgamated in 1998.

Freemasons are a diverse group of men from all walks of life, from many religions and many backgrounds. Becoming a Freemason is a commitment to develop your own potential, to values that see all humankind as equal, and to helping others in our community.
