Character of our Lodge
Murray Lodge is named in honour of Abijah (Abi) Murray, an important Masonic figure in the history of Far North Queensland.
Lodge events

Our history
Originally known as Cairns Lodge No 52, in 1921 after the formation of the United Grand Lodge of Queensland, the Lodge was renamed Murray Lodge No 177 to avoid confusion with another Lodge of the same name formerly under the Grand Lodge of Scotland.
Members agreed that the Lodge would be named after the first of either Abi Murray or Alf Riches to arrive at the assembly. It was said that both brethren arrived at the entrance and Riches held the door open to allow Abi Murray to enter first. This gentlemanly act determined that the Lodge would take Murray's name.
