Formerly two separate Lodges, Gregory 50H and Allan Lodges 284H were founded in 1886 and 1922 respectively. Recognised as being the oldest Lodge in Cairns, Gregory Lodge 50H would hold its meetings on the Wednesday closest to the full moon in a small hall owned by the Oddfellows. Getting to and from meetings was a challenge with Cairns being 'practically wilderness' at the time, with no proper roads or bridges over rivers or creeks. The perseverance shown by brethren to attend Lodge meetings during these early years is commendable.
By the mid-1920s Allan Lodge 284H was one of six that were meeting in Cairns.
Many decades later, Gregory Lodge 50H and Allan Lodge 284H were amalgamated at a consecration ceremony performed by MW Bro Alan Townson GM in March 2019.
Our regular monthly meetings are on the 3rd Monday of the month at 7:30pm, except December, January and March. We also have an annual meeting where the new Master and officers are invested for the following 12 months. This is held on the 2nd Saturday in March.
Freemasons are a diverse group of men from all walks of life, from many religions and many backgrounds. Becoming a Freemason is a commitment to develop your own potential, to values that see all humankind as equal, and to helping others in our community.
