Character of our Lodge

Gregory Lodge is the oldest Lodge in Cairns having been consecrated and constituted in 1886. William (Chas) Charles Smith, the father of acclaimed aviator, Sir Charles Kingsford Smith was initiated into Gregory Lodge. Similarly throughout history several Mayors of Cairns have been members of the Lodge.

Lodge events

Outside of Lodge we actively participate in a number of fundraising drives that benefit a variety of local causes. Should you wish to find out more please contact the Lodge Secretary.

Our history

Founded in 1886, Gregory Lodge is the oldest Lodge in Cairns. Back then the Lodge would meet on the Wednesday closest to the full moon in a small hall owned by the Oddfellows.  Getting to and from meetings was a challenge with Cairns being  ‘practically wilderness’ at the time, with no proper roads or bridges over rivers or creeks. The perseverance shown by brethren to attend Lodge meetings during these early years is commendable. The Masonic Centre in which Gregory Lodge meets today was consecrated in 1935.

Since its inception Gregory Lodge has sponsored 11 other Lodges making it their ‘Mother Lodge’.

Lodge Meetings

Our regular monthly meetings are on the 3rd Monday of the month at 7:30pm. We also have an annual meeting where the new Master and officers are invested for the following 12 months. The next one will be on Saturday 25th June 2017.

Freemasons are a diverse group of men from all walks of life, from many religions and many backgrounds. Becoming a Freemason is a commitment to develop your own potential, to values that see all humankind as equal, and to helping others in our community.
